Distribution

Access Process Solutions (APS) worked with executives in a major, U.S. School District with their distribution operation. This operation was in the midst of a major business transformation where APS helped design processes, roles, and responsibilities.

APS Work
APS helped a major, metropolitan school district transform their central distribution center for school supplies from an outdated, labor intensive, order-taking, order-filling, and stocking processes to a streamlined, automated system that lowered costs by 18%. APS, working with the district, created an integrated system coordinated to create a process focus crossing departmental lines.

An APS team worked with supervisors to map out primary processes to identify value-added steps and to review roles and responsibilities, as accountability had eroded in its stagnant environment.

APS Results
This operation’s productivity rose from an approximate level of 1-sigma to a 3-sigma in less than two years. During these times of runaway budget cuts, they continued to supply their schools with top-of-the-line materials and supplies, while lowering their costs over 20%. APS worked with each department of this center to fully define processes, to tie processes to policies and standards, and to minimize hand-offs and unwanted delays. Here are some results we can share:

blue bullet point Error rates dropped considerably within a year
blue bullet point Out-of-stock rates nearly disappeared
blue bullet point Damaged goods’ percentages diminished
blue bullet point Employee absenteeism dwindled noticeably
blue bullet point Productivity swelled to an amazing 57% increase in under two years
blue bullet point Deliveries have neared a 99% on-time rate
blue bullet point Logistics costs overall dropped a staggering 43%
